Yes She Can: 10 Stories of Hope & Change from Young Female Staffers of the Obama White House

On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama won the presidential election. In November 2012, he did it again. However, YES SHE CAN is not Obama’s story. It’s about the young women in his staff. Molly Dillon compiled her story along with 9 other young women such as Andrea R. Flores, Vivian P. Graubard and Noemie C. Levy, in YES SHE CAN: 10 Stories of Hope and Change from Young Females Staffers of the Obama White House. Each of the young women in the book worked in some part of the Obama administration. With March being Women’s History March, there has never been a more perfect time to release YES SHE CAN, written by and about these wonderful, capable young women.

"YES SHE CAN is incredible, inspiring book. After reading this book, I felt invigorated, confident and ready to do something for my cause. This book is so important for teen girls everywhere."

When Obama first won, the women featured in YES SHE CAN were all still teenagers. But through different ways and openings, all 10 women joined the Obama administration in their twenties. Molly Dillon, Andrea R. Flores, Kalisha Dessources, Taylor Lustig, Vivian P. Graubard, Eleanor Celeste, Nita Contreras, Jenna Brayton, Jamie Woo and Noemie C. Levy are the 10 remarkable young women who share their stories in YES SHE CAN. From helping organize a film festival to briefing Vice President Joe Biden on cancer policy, these women have been integral in helping keep the administration active and functional.

YES SHE CAN is incredible, inspiring book. After reading this book, I felt invigorated, confident and ready to do something for my cause. This book is so important for teen girls everywhere. Not only does YES SHE CAN feature women, the book features women from all different types of backgrounds. With this book, all teen girls will be able to see people like them organizing something big and important or being put in a position or place that they might not have originally thought that they could be in. The stories in YES SHE CAN flow into one another and envelop you. You feel as if you are actually there in that moment alongside those women. You can feel the emotion in their writing making each moment even more meaningful. The young women are also extremely relatable despite their extraordinary jobs. You understand their struggles and their emotions. The women are incredible at what they do and yet, they never seem inhuman. They talk about their mistakes and triumphs in complete honesty, so they feel just like you and me.

YES SHE CAN is a book you can finish in one sitting, but the stories mean even more when you take each one in individually. Each woman stands out in her story so perfectly that you have to take a moment to sit and think about her journey and her work. The book is perfect for young girls --- especially ones who are interested in politics. YES SHE CAN can show you just how possible it is to get involved in the political world with enough hard work and the right mindset. YES SHE CAN, compiled by Molly Dillon, is fascinating and empowering --- a must read for everyone.
