Vengeance Road

Review

Vengeance Road

Thrilling; Racing; Action packed --- VENGEANCE ROAD by Erin Bowman is all of those things in more. It’s a unique, fresh novel featuring a strong protagonist, Kate Thompson, whose mission drives her to explore dry, hot desert of the West.

Kate disguises herself as “Nate” in hopes of finding her father's journal. Her father was killed by the Rose Riders and now Kate has no one left but herself.

VENGEANCE ROAD may have a small cast of characters, but Bowman does a fantastic job weaving in the Rose Riders, the Wild West and Kate. Kate is a strong, fierce character who absolutely radiated off the pages. She has one goal and she’ll do anything to achieve it.

Kate is a strong, fierce character who absolutely radiated off the pages.

I also liked that Bowman balanced the action and suspense in the novel with a growing romance between Kate and Jesse, a boy who helped her on her path. I thought Kate and Jesse were great for each other and I loved their sense of companionship.

One thing that stood out in VENGEANCE ROAD was the ending --- it took me by surprise! Bowman blows your mind with a twist that you won’t see coming at all.

Although I wish that Kate and her family relations were more complex I generally thought that Bowman does a wonderful job crafting a rich, complex novel in terms of plot, characters, and values. I found Kate's journey to be inspiring, as well as the book’s message that a person should never give up when searching for the truth. VENGEANCE ROAD will have you looking at the West in a whole new light. Pick this one up now!
