The Winner's Curse

The Winner's Curse

Kestrel ended up at an auction…a slave auction, and she ended up buying one.
Kestrel is the daughter of the general of the city of Valoria, and in a few months she will have to choose between joining the army and getting married. While Kestrel is great at military strategies, she really just wants to play music. That is why she feels compelled to buy Arin, a slave at an auction who can sing. It’s not long after that she realizes how high of a price she really paid for Arin, and that her whole country is about to see a rebellion.

THE WINNER’S CURSE is an amazing start to what I can tell will be an amazing series. It is a story of slaves, music, rebellion and tons and tons of rumors. Marie Rutkoski has written some amazing characters, making them driven, powerful and very clever. Rutkoski has without a doubt created a beautiful, rich story in a beautiful world in THE WINNER’S CURSE.

THE WINNER’S CURSE is an amazing start to what I can tell will be an amazing series.

Rutkoski really shows the internal struggle between picking your heart or your country as you know it. THE WINNER’S CURSE is a story that just sucks you in --- you to fall deep into the story and never want to get out. When you reach the end, you feel a loss that leaves you craving the sequel, and you’ll  be compelled to open the front cover right after you just closed the back cover. I can safely say that this is one of my favorite reads of 2014 so far and it gets 5 out of 5 bright stars.
