The Scattering

After discovering that she's an Outlier, Wylie's life has been anything but normal. She and Jasper have both been suffering the effects of the grief that their journeys in the first novel, especially Cassie's death, have left upon them.

Even with Quentin gone, there are still a number of threats awaiting their turn to strike upon those blessed and cursed with this emotional perception ability, and Wylie finds herself at the center of it as her dad continues work on his study. Her twin brother Gideon grows angrier at both her and her dad, feeling insignificant and insufficient in the eyes of their father as he stands in Wylie's shadow.

"The story is suspenseful and full of twists, adventure, and characters who aren't who they seem."

Escaping one dangerous situation only to be caught in another, Wylie lands herself trapped inside a hospital wing led by shady individuals who aren't who they say they are, and surrounded by girls she assumes to be other Outliers. Reminded of her and Jasper's experience at Camp Colestah, Wylie enlists the help of people she wouldn't typically trust in order to arrange a plan of escape before things get worse. Her problems don't end there --- even those closest to her are hiding things, and Wylie struggles to find assistance in her plan to rescue the other Outliers, feeling it's her responsibility to help those who share her ability.

THE SCATTERING is the second heart-pounding thriller in the Outliers trilogy by Kimberly McCreight. The plot resembles that of the first novel, The OUTLIERS; the story is suspenseful and full of twists, adventure, and characters who aren't who they seem. Wylie and Jasper's characters develop as their faith in each other grows, and their situation becomes direr. There's a threat lurking around every corner eager to attain the information necessary to profit off of this Outlier ability, so Wylie and the other girls like her are never safe. Always on the run and always in the face of danger, Wylie relives her life-threatening captivity and thrilling escape in this second addition to the series.
