The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, Book 4)

Review

The Raven King (The Raven Cycle, Book 4)

Make way for THE RAVEN KING, the fourth and final installment of Maggie Steifvater's Raven Cycle. Readers have been waiting nearly two years for this book and I can confirm that it is a poignant and satisfying end to a fantastic series. All of the questions fans of this series have been asking will finally be answered, including the most pressing: will Gansey die? I'm not going to tell you, of course. You'll have to find out for yourself.

"Readers will not be disappointed by Steifvater's signature rich, descriptive writing style....I hope Steifvater has another series up her sleeve for us soon."

Blue, Gansey, Adam and Ronan face odds that are more dangerous than ever. Blue’s prophecy that she will kill her true love with a kiss looms large, Gansey’s quest for the Welsh king Glendower continues, Ronan’s ability to pull improbable things from his dreams becomes even riskier and Adam’s daring deal with Cabeswater proves more harrowing than he imagined --- not to mention the fact that all four must still balance high school while magic threatens all aspects of their lives. THE RAVEN KING is filled with twists, turns and surprises that will keep fans of this series on their toes.

There are so many climactic events packed into these pages, all of which have been building over the course of the previous three novels. The story is more quickly paced than its predecessors, but Steifvater still manages to make time for what she does best --- characterization. Blue, Gansey and Adam feel like old friends to the reader, but Ronan truly shines in THE RAVEN KING. His complexities continue to evolve and multiply as we learn more about his past, his ability to pull items from his dreams and his innermost thoughts and feelings. Readers will also get to discover more about previously minor characters who ends up playing surprising, indispensable roles in the story's events.

Readers will not be disappointed by Steifvater's signature rich, descriptive writing style. The story flows in a way that kept me turning pages until I finally got to the end, and once I got there I only wanted more; I couldn't wait to get to the end, but at the same time I never wanted it to finish --- I think fans of this series will feel the same. I hope Steifvater has another series up her sleeve for us soon.
