The Cruelty

Gwendolyn Bloom, the 17-year-old daughter of a diplomat, is used to having little friends. Constantly moving for her father’s work, she can speak a slew of languages and is more culturally affluent than people twice her age. But Gwendolyn knows the pain of feeling alone. Her mother died tragically when she was just a child and the other teenagers at her school see her as an outsider. Her father is all she has. Therefore, when her father is kidnapped on a business trip, Gwendolyn is willing to do anything to find him.

Gwendolyn soon finds herself involved with mysterious foreign officers, dangerous gang members and brash prostitutes. As the struggle to locate her father becomes more dangerous and more complicated, Gwendolyn must shed any resemblance to her past self. But what if in order to find her father, she has to become as ruthless as the men who took him from her?

"A non-stop action and adventure novel at its finest...With the barest hint of romance and a thrilling storyline, readers cannot go wrong with picking up THE CRUELTY."

THE CRUELTY by Scott Bergstrom is a blend of incredible writing and an all-consuming story line. Straight off the bat, Gwendolyn comes across as a funny, honest and incredibly intelligent character. She has a dark past, and as a result has a lot of anxiety to deal with. Throughout the novel, she undergoes drastic character development to become a strong --- if slightly reckless --- young woman. There are no other main characters that the reader truly gets to know. However, the cast of supporting characters is incredibly diverse and every new person Gwendolyn meets adds another element to the novel.

Scott Bergstrom’s excellent writing adds intensity to an already thrilling novel. As Gwendolyn travels to different areas of Europe, the settings change drastically. Scott Bergstrom expertly immerses the reader in the worlds of Paris, Berlin and Prague.

THE CRUELTY does not have a dull moment as Gwendolyn races against the authorities to find her missing father before they find her. Overall, THE CRUELTY by Scott Bergstrom is a non-stop action and adventure novel at its finest. With the barest hint of romance and a thrilling storyline, readers cannot go wrong with picking up THE CRUELTY.
