The Becoming of Noah Shaw (The Shaw Confessions)

THE BECOMING OF NOAH SHAW is the first book in The Shaw Confessions which is a new companion series to The Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin. This book is told from Noah’s point of view and focuses on him uncovering truths he does not want to uncover. If you have not read The Mara Dyer series first then I think you should read those books first before reading this one because you will not understand a lot of this book if you do not.

When I first heard about this book I was so excited to get my hands on it because Noah was my favorite character in Hodkin’s original series. When I first read THE UNBECOMING OF MARA DYER I instantly fell in love with Noah’s quick wit and attitude and he is one of my favorite characters of all time. In this new book he was just as sassy and fun to read about. While reading this book I found myself laughing out loud at the things he would say.

"[Hodkin's] writing is entrancing and I was never able to willingly put this book down....Anyone who enjoyed The Mara Dyer series will most likely love this book."

Noah is the whole package in my opinion. Noah is a really intelligent character and does not do things without thinking things through and I loved seeing that. It was a nice change of pace from a lot of young adult characters I read about who do things on impulse. He also has accent which should sell you on reading this book if anything I said before did not.

His love for Mara makes my heart melt. He just wants her to be happy and the way he talks about her makes me smile while reading this book. Noah and Mara’s relationship in these books are #goals. I also loved the references Noah made to The Harry Potter series; he made so many of them and I appreciated them so much.

I will read anything written by Michelle Hodkin. I fell in love with her writing style when I read her Mara Dyer series. Her writing is entrancing and I was never able to willingly put this book down. I flew through this book. Even though this book was dark and deep, her writing style is the complete opposite. It is easy and fun and perfect for a story like this. I know we should not judge books by their covers, but it is worth mentioning that Hodkin’s books always have flawless covers! I have not read a lot of paranormal/fantasy books but because of this book I want to pick up more of that genre.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal books with a lot of romance. Anyone who enjoyed The Mara Dyer series will most likely love this book. But major trigger warning because there is depression, suicide and self-harm. I did not know this going into the book and I kind of feel like I wish I knew. I still would have picked up this book, but I think that if you are sensitive to those things then you should be wary. But overall I loved this book and I think everyone should read it!
