The Battle of Darcy Lane

Julia’s really excited that summer’s here. It means that she gets to hang out with her best friend Taylor and flirt with Peter, and this year, even the cicadas are coming out. All that changes when Alyssa moves in across the street --- suddenly Julia never hangs out with Taylor, and she spends all her time trying to make sure Taylor isn’t Alyssa’s new BFF.Now Julia’s got to find a way to get back Taylor, get back at Alyssa for being so mean, and keep her mom happy. Also, when in the world are those cicadas going to finally come out?

Altebrando really captures the essence of what it means to be a kid who’s just getting to the stage where boys no longer have cooties, makeup is a must and being popular is everything.

THE BATTLE OF DARCY LANE is an amazing middle grade read that even people out of middle school will enjoy. Tara Altebrando explores the nature of friendship and how quickly things can change. Rivalry can form easily, and new relationships can form even easier than that. Readers will enjoy this light read and older readers will end up envying the youth and innocence of the characters in front of them.
