Teen Hyde: High School Horror

Review

Teen Hyde: High School Horror

There really isn’t all that much I can tell you about TEEN HYDE without giving everything away. I think you will enjoy the book a lot more if you are able to create your own judgements. So I will keep my description short and sweet.

TEEN HYDE by Chandler Baker is about the life of a “typical” high school cheerleading captain named Cassidy Hyde who finds a new side of herself --- literally. After going through a traumatic experience, Cassidy becomes depressed. She is no longer the party girl she used to be --- until Sunshine. Sunshine made her feel like herself again. She was happy, she enjoyed parties and she was the head cheerleader again. What Cassidy doesn’t realize is ever since she started taking Sunshine, her new self has been sneaking out at night creating havoc wherever she goes. Eventually Cassidy realizes what the other side of herself is up to and tries to stop it. Does she succeed? Read TEEN HYDE to find out!

"I would recommend TEEN HYDE to anyone who loves a fast read and a thriller. The book is less than 300 pages, but it is packed with action."

TEEN HYDE is definitely a page turner. I couldn’t put it down. Page after page the story develops and you learn new information. You start out rather confused, wondering why the main character suddenly changes. You very quickly figure out that it is not a different character. It is simply a different part of the main character. As the book progresses, you make your own theories and try to figure out why in the world Marcy is doing what she’s doing. In time you find out and you have to decide whether Marcy truly is the bad guy or not.

Personally, I found TEEN HYDE very interesting and exciting. Although I have to give some credit to the musical my high school put on --- “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” (read more about this on my upcoming blog post!) --- Chandler Baker did an excellent job of turning the classic tale into a modern high school story. It is not what I expected. Honestly I’m not sure what I thought the book would entail, but it certainly was not what I read. I like that unpredictable element in books and being surprised. I like having to reread a paragraph or two to make sure I read something correctly. To me it adds a new level of excitement and suspense to any story.

I would recommend TEEN HYDE to anyone who loves a fast read and a thriller. The book is less than 300 pages, but it is packed with action. It will be extremely hard to find a dull moment in this book. So if you are someone who just wants a quick standalone thriller --- or even if you’re not --- I think you should read TEEN HYDE. Maybe it will inspire you to read THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE by Robert Louis Stevenson. Or maybe you’ll watch “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” the musical and never be able to get the songs out of your head --- like me! Either way, TEEN HYDE was a fantastic book that I think anyone would love. I have never been a big fan of scary things and I was able to handle this story. If I can do it, you can do it! So now I ask --- are you Team Cassidy or Team Marcy?
