Minders

What happens when thoughts turn deadly?

Sadie has landed the internship of a lifetime at the prestigious Mind Corps Fellowship program. She will spend six weeks inside the head of a troubled youth to observe the lives and struggles of Detroit’s inner city. Sadie trusts that her cold and analytical mind will make her the perfect candidate to objectively catalogue her subject’s thoughts and actions. But being inside the mind of nineteen-year-old Ford Winter is much more intense than Sadie anticipated.

Jaffe perfectly describes Ford’s subconscious thoughts and raw emotions...leaving readers feeling as though they are trapped inside his mind along with Sadie

Ford is angry and guilt-ridden over the death of his brother, James, who was murdered a couple of months ago. Ford knows there is more to his brother’s death than the reports say, but the people around him are determined to prevent him from asking any questions. Seeing all of Ford’s thoughts and insecurities, Sadie is fascinated by the workings of her subject’s mind and soon finds it impossible to keep her emotions in check. Sadie watches helplessly as the boy she loves places himself in the crosshairs of a highly dangerous enemy. But when she witnesses Ford commit a horrible crime, Sadie finds it difficult to believe what she sees. How well does she really know Ford? And will her sense of duty and justice win over her feelings of love?

MINDERS is an expertly written novel with a truly unique concept. Jaffe perfectly describes Ford’s subconscious thoughts and raw emotions such as grief, betrayal and love, leaving readers feeling as though they are trapped inside his mind along with Sadie. The transformation Sadie undergoes while watching the drama in Ford’s life is fascinating to behold, as she cannot help but be moved by the powerful swirl of emotions present in his head.

This edgy sci-fi thriller provides an accurate and consuming picture of humanity. Although the conclusion is slightly rushed, MINDERS will keep readers guessing and enthralled until the very end.
