Legion (The Talon Saga)

Review

Legion (The Talon Saga)

In LEGION by Julie Kagawa, the fourth book in the Talon Saga, Ember Hill swears to stand with the rogue dragon Riley against the dragon-killing Order of St. George and the corrupted dragon government, Talon. To do so, she must fight against her own blood --- Dante, her brother, the heir to all of Talon and the dragon that may release an all-out war.

Throughout her journey, Ember learns that Talon has been feeding them lies from the beginning: about the dragons, the humans, the Earth, herself and her abilities, yet Dante is convinced that he stands on the right side. Garret, an ex-soldier from St. George, has betrayed his own kind after falling in love with Ember and will fight to his death to ensure her safety. Talon threatens the world with the overpowering, everlasting rule of dragons over the Earth and the devastating army they have created. With secrets revealed and true colors shown, the fourth addition to the Saga will have you entranced from beginning to end.

"LEGION is by far one of the most intense novels in the series. Kagawa creates a perfect action/fantasy and romance novel with fine storytelling features that provides the reader with a worthwhile reading adventure."

Kagawa did a fantastic job with the varying, yet consistent personality types of the characters throughout the series. Ember stayed true to her morals and her ethics while we can still see the true, cunning personality of Dante in the novel. The love triangle between Ember, Garret and Riley definitely kept the interest of those who enjoy romance in the first three, but now Ember has made her choice. Because of that, the main part of the story is focused on the action and battles that adventure-lovers will definitely enjoy. In the heat of the battles, LEGION is by far one of the most intense novels in the series.

Kagawa creates a perfect action/fantasy and romance novel with fine storytelling features that provides the reader with a worthwhile reading adventure. The different points of view, with Dante, Ember, Garret and Riley narrating, provide their significant perspectives and emotions to each situation. Dante reveals the behind the scenes within Talon and their evil schemes, a tactic that makes the book much more immersive. Everything within Talon, the rogues and the humans in St. George is revealed with twists and turns at every page.

The story picked up quickly from book three, after the cliffhanger, and starts right in the middle of the action. Ember is still going through her character arc, even with the second-to-last book in the series. She is still evolving, adjusting and discovering her true self up until the last page. Riley is his same old self, with a fiery, determined personality that will do anything to save the hatchlings in his safe houses. Again, I have fallen in love with each of the characters as they evolve because of their unique differences and motivations. Kagawa’s amazing writing definitely delivered the action-packed novel I had hoped for.

LEGION took me on an incredible ride in the battle between dragons, soldiers and the will of those who want peace. The pain, fights, love, hope, strength, weakness and betrayal were written with a skillful hand into LEGION.

The next novel, INFERNO, will be released April 24, 2018.
