Just Call My Name

Emily Bell has it all. She's in love with a boy named Sam Border, and his little brother has become part of her family. This summer is destined to be the best time of their lives --- until a charismatic new girl in town sets her sights on Sam. Now Emily finds herself questioning the loyalty of the person she thought she could trust most. But the biggest threat to her happiness is someone she never saw coming. Sam's criminally insane father, whom everyone thought they'd finally left behind, is planning a jailbreak. And he knows exactly where to find Emily and his sons when he escapes...and takes his revenge.

There are few books that have the gift of making you feel all the emotions that you can. They make you feel happiness, anger, sadness and every other emotion in between. Sometimes, they make you feel those emotions all at once. I think this is something that Holly Goldberg Sloan --- author of JUST CALL MY NAME --- does really well.  While reading this book, there were several points where I was bawling my eyes out. Then, out of nowhere, a character made a joke and I found myself simultaneously crying and laughing my butt off.

I loved JUST CALL MY NAME for many reasons, but especially for how the writing made me feel various emotions. Ultimately, that’s what a good book does.

Another thing I loved about this novel was how it felt like you were in the book itself, experiencing everything the characters were going through right along with them. The author did a great job of bringing the world in the book to life, which is not an easy feat. You felt like you were right there with Emily and Sam, crying and laughing with them.

I loved JUST CALL MY NAME for many reasons, but especially for how the writing made me feel various emotions. Ultimately, that’s what a good book does. It makes you feel emotions and that’s why we continue to read. We relate to the characters and what they are feeling, and I think this book really nailed that aspect of what makes a good book good.
