Every Vote Matters: The Power of Your Voice, from Student Elections to the Supreme Court (Teens & the Law)

Judge Tom Jacobs and his daughter, Natalie Jacobs, form a familial duo that explore the urgency for young people to go out and realize the importance of their voice.  Instantly captivating, we are exposed to Judge Jacob’s genuine passion and encouragement of our democratic freedoms. He is an “encourager” and constantly stresses the importance of even one vote --- citing many cases where one solitary vote dramatically changed an outcome and the way we live our lives. Specifically suited for young people, Judge Jacob’s case for your involvement in these kinds of affairs is filled with a genuine love for the freedom most of us continually ignore.

Instantly captivating...[exposes] Judge Jacob’s genuine passion and encouragement of our democratic freedoms.

EVERY VOTE MATTERS: The Power of Your Voice from Student Elections to the Supreme Court is not your typical book. It explores real-life judicial cases, highlights the specific issue at hand, and even offers hypothetical “what if’s” --- all while using methods that appeal to young people like teenagers. Although a book about government, judicial cases, politics and things that seem only to be reserved for adults may be an unpopular recipe, Judge Jacobs and his daughter write in a simple and effective manner that is, above all, enjoyable. While presenting a case, the duo breaks down each case and highlights the purpose of every issue. Next, they explain the significance that each case held and explore the broader range in which it affects the nation. Unperceived to many, history might have turned out to be completely different than how we know of it now.

Full of surprising twists and turns, it is hard not to be amazed at some of the freedoms we have overlooked that were rigorously debated, sometimes decades at a time. In almost all these cases, these issues have directly affected the targeted demographic of the book: young people. Taking note of this, the book takes out interesting examples that I feel many people would be fascinated to read about. Although the subject may be synonymous to being boring, I can testify that it is far from it. Especially with all the charts, examples, and perspectives, EVERY VOTE MATTERS is definitely worth reading. I especially recommend this book to any elementary, middle, and even high school students.
