Echoes of Dark & Light

Review

Echoes of Dark & Light

Meet Bobbi Rivers. A tall, strong Union soldier in the civil war --- and a girl. ECHOES OF DARK AND LIGHT by Chris Shanley-Dillman narrates the story of a dedicated 17-year-old girl on a quest to find her brother and fight for her country, all while disguised as a boy.

Set in the middle of the Civil War, Bobbi experiences battles on the front lines and the horrors of war as she rescues her brother and slowly grows to love her tent-mate Toby. This book is not only about war, but about courage, friendship, betrayal and loyalty. Trust becomes one of the biggest themes throughout the book and literally saves or loses the lives of the characters.

"No matter what your level of Civil-War knowledge is, this exciting read is the book for you."

While some action and heroic deeds by Bobbi are rather melodramatic and unrealistic, this makes the book a little more fun and takes away from the gruesome details of being a soldier. This book is an enjoyable story full of action-packed battles and a kick-booty heroine. Parts of this book will leave you laughing out loud, while others will have you at the edge of your seat in anticipation. No matter if you are a history buff or could care less, ECHOES OF DARK AND LIGHT leaves out the boring details, while incorporating a few necessary stratagems seamlessly. No matter what your level of Civil-War knowledge is, this exciting read is the book for you.
