Between the Blade and the Heart

New York Times bestselling author Amanda Hocking has come out with another book, BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART, to begin a captivating new series! Amanda Hocking has written quite a few books and series before BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART including FREEKS, The Watersong Quartet, The Trylle Trilogy, The Kanin Chronicles andThe Hollows. However, she is not only a writer, but Amanda Hocking is the epitome of a successful self-publisher, making her not only an incredible writer but also an incredible role model! She is proud resident of Minnesota, and --- if you could not tell from her many books --- she is a big fan of the paranormal.

"BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART by Amanda Hocking is very fun, pretty quick read. If you are into fantasy --- especially mythology --- [it] is perfect for you."

BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART is Amanda Hocking’s new book, a book that starts an adventure. Based in Norse mythology, BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART follows a young valkyrie-in-training named Malin Krigare. Malin knows a Valkyrie’s job is to kill --- sorry, return --- immortals back to Kurnugia, the Underworld for immortal creatures. Her mother, Marlow, is her mentor and an amazing Valkyrie too. Then one day, a mysterious boy named Asher comes into her life and tells her something that turns her world and basically the entire world upside down.

A Valkyrie had not killed her target. And not just any Valkyrie, Malin’s mom, one of the greatest Valkyries, had not killed her target; she let him go. And because of this grave mistake, the balance of the world has been upset. Malin --- along with Asher, her friend Oona and her ex-girlfriend Quinn --- set off to find this immortal and right Marlow’s wrong before it’s too late. But while dealing with all of this, Malin must deal with old feelings for Quinn and her new ones for Asher. Malin must come to understand why and how she has these feelings because according to her mother, Valkyries don’t fall in love. So why is Malin?

By the end of BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART, I had fallen in love this book, and I absolutely cannot wait for the next one. However, it’s not without a few faults. The book started out pretty slow and I didn’t really start to fully enjoy reading it until chapter nine. Also, it had a lot of over-explaining. But other than those issues, I really liked this book. It was a good read, and I liked the majority of the characters. I hope that we get to see more of the side characters like Sloane and Quinn and Oona in BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART in the next book in this series.

BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART by Amanda Hocking is very fun, pretty quick read. If you are into fantasy --- especially mythology --- BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART is perfect for you. It reminded me of a slightly more adult, Norse Rick Riordan book. The book also contained a ton of girl power from Malin to Oona. If you’re in the mood for fun fantasy novel, then get BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART!
