Atlantia is a city built in under the ocean, after the pollution of our world forced a Divide upon our people, causing half to go to this new city Below, and some to sacrifice and stay Above. A people known as sirens came out of this Divide. They look just like everyone else, but their voices are powerful enough to make people obey anything they say. When the sirens started using their power for bad, the government began to take them in.

If you enjoyed Ally Condie's Matched series, you will enjoy this new novel

Sirens started to use a fake robotic voice to hide their real voice. Rio was one of those sirens. Her mother was the Minister, the most powerful position in society, until her death, which had sketchy details, caused the new mysterious Minister to take her place. Rio dreams of going Above, but when she finally gets the chance to go, her sister makes an unwarranted, heartbreaking decision that leaves Rio stranded below. Her mysterious aunt Maire --- who is also a siren and has been distant from Rio her whole life --- gives Rio the necessary information to reach Bay, her sister. Rio also meets True along the way, whose friend may have had something to do with Bay's decision. True and Maire help Rio not only reach her sister, but save Atlantia itself.

If you enjoyed Ally Condie's Matched series, you will enjoy this new novel. The plot is complex and full of unexpected turns. Rio is such a likeable character, and you can feel her every emotion. The story has romance, murder, adventure and even a dystopian society. The age range is not very tight, since there weren't too many mature subjects, but I'd say 12 and up just because it might be confusing for anyone younger. It's a quick read, especially since you won't want to put it down!
