After Hours

Review

After Hours

AFTER HOURS by Claire Kennedy is a novel depicting the fun and games behind the scenes of a high end restaurant. The story is told in four different perspectives from teen employees at the Waterside Café --- Isa, Xavi, Peter and Finn --- as they play a game called Tips. To play, the teens place money in a jar and if their name is selected, they must complete a dare to win the money. If they don't complete the dare, the money remains in the jar until the next buy-in. Everyone plays Tips for a different reason: Isa needs wants to run away from her past and further her future; Xavi is only a bus girl and desperately needs the money; Peter does it because Xavi does it and Finn does it for fun. The four of them make an interesting mix with their eclectic personalities and ulterior motives.

AFTER HOURS is daring, entertaining and shocking; readers will definitely have a great time with this quick read jam-packed with fun and revelations.

With each turn of a page, something interesting is occurring. Learning the truth behind each character is exciting and enticing, because the reader is always left to wanting more. Each of the four characters’ secrets is shockingly scandalous, as if they belonged on “Gossip Girl” or “90210." Each secret boggles your mind but has you rapidly reading the pages to know the outcome. I can definitely say some of them were more shocking than others, but my jaw dropped every time a new one was revealed. Claire Kennedy definitely keeps the reader captivated throughout the entire novel.

AFTER HOURS is daring, entertaining and shocking; readers will definitely have a great time with this quick read jam-packed with fun and revelations. The characters are so real, I feel as though I could apply to be a part of the wait staff at Waterside Café. Scandals + teenagers + summer = one heck of a story!
