Summer (Book) Lovin'!
Summer has officially arrived! Has anyone out there already started working on their Accidentally-Fell-Asleep-While-Reading-Outside Tan yet? No? Well, you better get crackin’! Just make sure to apply sunscreen beforehand --- the lobster look is no fun and it's not healthy either! And if you need some book recommendations, we’re here to help, with tons of great summer reads.

First up: PASSION by Lauren Kate, the third book in the Fallen series, is in stores now. In this latest installment, Luce travels through her past to uncover the secrets --- and to see firsthand how the love between her and Daniel developed through the centuries. PASSION is a wildly romantic romp through time and space, sure to satisfy fans of the series who have wanted to see more of Luce and Daniel’s history. Read our review and an excerpt, and if you missed it, be sure to check out our interview with Lauren Kate as she talks about the writing of PASSION.

Also in stores now is THE LOST HEIRESS by Catherine Fisher, Book Two in the Relic Master series, in which Galen and Raffi must race to protect the heiress to the fallen throne of Tasceron, after hearing rumors of her survival. Don’t look now, but Book Three, THE HIDDEN CORONET, releases July 12th, and the concluding volume, THE MARGRAVE, will be available August 9th.

We have a new special feature that we’d like to share with you. Ally Carter’s second addition to her Heist Society series, UNCOMMON CRIMINALS, is in stores now. If you haven’t picked up the series yet, here’s a review and an excerpt of the first book, HEIST SOCIETY. If you already love reading about Katarina Bishop’s ongoing heists and thievery, check out the review and excerpt of the sequel. We also have an exclusive interview with Ally, which you can read here.

We’re also spotlighting THE EMPIRE OF GUT AND BONE, and 75 lucky readers will win this third book in M.T. Anderson's The Norumbegan Quartet. Brian and Gregory have set out for the land of New Norumbega to see if the Norumbegans will help them fight the aliens back on Earth. But New Norumbega is a place unlike any other --- an empire of gut and bone (literally). Read our review and an excerpt, and be sure to enter the contest.

Post-apocalyptic reads will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat --- or lounge chair --- and ASHES, ASHES by Jo Treggiari is a great one available now. We’re giving 20 readers the chance to win a copy of Treggiari’s YA debut, which is about a 16-year-old named Lucy who wasn’t born to be a hunter or live off the land. But the pox takes the lives of most everyone, and Lucy doesn’t have a choice. She has to become a survivor. Read our review, an excerpt and our interview with the author, and then enter the contest.

In our current Grab Bag of Books contest, we're giving away five great books: BEAUTY QUEENS by Libba Bray, CLARITY by Kim Harrington, DOUBLE TAKE by Melody Carlson, THE SEER AND THE SCRIBE: SPEAR OF DESTINY: A Medieval Murder Mystery, by G.M. Possibly the most anticipated film of the year is coming out in less than a month: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Many of you have grown up alongside Harry, Ron and Hermione, so this finale is going to be bittersweet. Thankfully, the books and the movies will always be there for you whenever you need a little HP fix. Click here to read more about the film, and be sure to answer our poll and question: “When are you planning to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2? and “Of all the characters in the Harry Potter series, which one do you think you are most like, and why?

Let's not forget about the huge announcement made on Thursday from J.K. Rowling about Pottermore.com. Expected to launch on July 31st (Harry Potter's birthday), this awesome site will give you a chance to explore Harry's world like never before and will feature brand-new material from the author herself about the characters, places and objects in the series. And beginning in October, you'll be able to purchase eBooks and audiobooks of the series exclusively through the site. Click here for Rowling's announcement, where she talks about all the interactive elements that Pottermore.com will be offering. We can't wait!

In theaters now is X-Men: First Class, which tells the origins of famed characters like Professor X and Magneto. Added incentive? Jennifer Lawrence, the actress who will be playing Katniss in the film adaptation of THE HUNGER GAMES, plays a teenage Mystique, and you can see her acting chops at work. Also on the big screen this month is The Green Lantern, about Hal Jordan, the first human ever selected to become a Green Lantern, who then has to save Earth.

June’s Cool New Books roundup includes WITHERING TIGHTS, a laugh-out-loud coming-of-age tale from the author of the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series; HAUNTING VIOLET by Alyxandra Harvey, in which the main character considers seeing spirits to be a curse, not a gift; and SHE LOVES YOU, SHE LOVES YOU NOT, a compelling novel from Julie Anne Peters about coming out, finding love, and discovering your place in the world.

Among our New in Paperback titles for June are TORMENT, the second installment in Lauren Kate’s Fallen series; TANGLED by Carolyn Mackler, which finds the good girl, the jock, the beautiful one and the geek all tangled together; and THE DUFF (DESIGNATED UGLY FAT FRIEND), young Kody Keplinger’s debut about a 17-year-old who throws herself into an enemies-with-benefits fling with the boy who nicknamed her "the Duff" --- just before she threw her Coke in his face!

A few of our standout reviews this month include EVERLASTING, the sixth and final book in Alyson Noël's Immortals series; TEN THINGS WE DID (AND PROBABLY SHOULDN’T HAVE) by Sarah Mlynowski, in which 16-year-old April finds a way to spend half her school year living adult-free with her bff Vi; and TIGHTER by Adele Griffin, a tale that sends 17-year-old Jamie on a search for the truth surrounding a young couple's tragic death.

By the way, I got to have lunch with Adele earlier this month. As always, it was nice to meet the author after reading her book! (By the way, I NEVER meet with an author before I read their work; I feel that is rude.) She talked about how her book was based on Henry James's book THE TURN OF THE SCREW. I haven't read THE TURN OF THE SCREW, but reading TIGHTER definitely made me want to. Curious to see what you think!

And lastly, be sure to enter our Word of Mouth giveaway for your chance to win a copy of TWISTED, Sara Shepard’s ninth Pretty Little Liars book. All you have to do is tell us what you’ve been reading here and you could be the lucky winner!

Enjoy the start of summer, and have a firecracker 4th!

On July 15th, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, the long-awaited final film in the magical world of Harry Potter --- and the very last time you'll fly alongside Harry --- lands in theaters. The Harry Potter movies have been wowing audiences for 10 years running, and the very first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Philosopher’s if you’re in England) was originally published by J.K. New Special Feature: The Heist Society Series by Ally Carter
Ally Carter loves to write about spies, thieves and empowered teenage girls who sometimes need to hack, steal and lie their way to the truth. The author of two beloved spy series, Gallagher Girls and Heist Society, she has been churning out books year after year. Teenreads.com’s Donna Volkenannt spoke with Carter about her latest, UNCOMMON CRIMINALS, the sequel to HEIST SOCIETY. In this interview, Carter explains the original seed for the novel’s plot and discusses why she can’t not write “girl power” books. She also dishes on her favorite heist films and the research needed to get famous gems and criminal exploits just right.

HEIST SOCIETY by Ally Carter (Fiction)
For as long as she can remember, Katarina has been a part of the family business --- thieving. When Kat tries to leave “the life” for a normal life, her old friend Hale conspires to bring her back into the fold. Why? A mobster’s art collection has been stolen, and Kat’s father is the only suspect. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat’s dad needs her help.

UNCOMMON CRIMINALS: A Heist Society Novel by Ally Carter (Fiction)
Katarina Bishop has worn a lot of labels in her short life. Friend. Niece. Daughter. Thief. But for the last two months, she’s simply been known as the girl who robbed the greatest museum in the world. That’s why Kat isn’t surprised when she’s asked to steal the infamous Cleopatra Emerald so it can be returned to its rightful owners.

Books into Movies for June: Now Featuring X-Men: First Class and The Green Lantern
Summer has just begun, and already the comic-book superheroes are in flight (well, some of them). Enter the X-Men and Green Lantern, who will do their best to try to make you forget about Thor!

Based on Stan Lee’s classic Marvel comics, X-Men: First Class is the fifth installment of the X-Men film series and a prequel. Taking us back in time, before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr ever took the legendary names Professor X and Magneto, we see the two as young guys discovering their powers. Not archenemies, they were actually best friends (gasp!), working together with other Mutants to prevent nuclear Armageddon. But soon enough they turned into enemies, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men. And we all know how that turned out!

Based on the DC comic series by Geoff Johns, Green Lantern takes place in a mysterious universe where a small but powerful force --- the Green Lantern Corps --- has protected peace and justice for centuries. Each Green Lantern wears a (pretty cool) ring that grants him amazing superpowers. But then a new enemy called Parallax enters, and the fate of Earth lies in the hands of the first human ever selected to become a Green Lantern: Hal Jordan. He’s gifted but cocky, so can he really be the one to save the whole world? Or does he need a little help from the X-Men?

More brawls and otherworldly battles are guaranteed to excite you at the box office this month, so it’s time to spring into action and, you know, save the world and stuff.
