Archives - Teenreads Monthly Update

Happy Banned Books Week! You may have heard about this event in English class. During Banned Books Week, attention is given to books that have been targeted with removal or restrictions in libraries and schools because of their content. Growing up, it was an ongoing joke in my family that my fun reading would come almost exclusively from the list of banned or challenged books. I was definitely that kind of teen --- I thought that if there was something in a book that someone didn’t want you to read, it was all the more worthwhile. Fortunately, my parents (especially my dad) were totally on board with this. At the same time, however, I was always encouraged to examine what I was reading and realize that not everything written is true, right or should be taken without a grain of salt. I strongly believe that it’s up to the reader to make up their own mind about the content of a book rather than not being given the chance to do so. What do you think about banned/challenged books or censorship? I would love to hear what you have to say!

This newsletter is a very special one for me to write because exactly one year ago, I began working at! This year has definitely been a big one for me, as well as, so I want to take some time to reflect on what has happened this past year. First, we began updating’s content every week (instead of monthly), and consequently, we significantly increased the number of books we review each month. We also got back to sending out newsletters twice a month!
