Seven Books to Read Before School Starts

Tagged:

Many of you are going back to school soon and some of you may have already started. School means waking up early five days of the week, spending money that could be used to buy books on school supplies, and having hours upon hours of homework every night. School also means having to read (let’s be frank here) boring books where you have to analyze every single thing for English class *cue groans from the audience.* While I’m sure those books will help in the future (someday…someday), here are my recommendations for some books to read before school starts.

1) PERFECT CHEMISTRY by Simone Elkeles --- If you like angsty books with a happy ending, then this book is for you. It does explore some heavy themes but the romance and chemistry between the two main characters keeps it from getting too out of hand. I would highly recommend more of Simone Elkeles books, as well.

2) TWO-WAY STREET by Lauren Barnholdt --- Road trip, anyone? TWO-WAY STREET is the ideal book for those last few days spent soaking up the sun. It isn’t heavy at all and, even though it ends quite predictably, it makes for the perfect summer book.

3) FLIPPED by Wendelin Van Draanen --- Eggs. Sniffing. Chickens. Science projects. Sycamore trees. What’s not to love?

4) ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS by Stephanie Perkins ---   If you like books that make your toes curl and you have not yet read this book, drop everything and go read it.

5) THE DUFF: DESIGNATED UGLY FAT FRIEND by Kody Keplinger --- This is a classic story of guy likes girl, girl hates guy but then girl ends up falling in love with the guy. It’s perhaps a bit overdone but this book has a fresh new perspective on it.

6) THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA by Lauren Weisberger --- You know what they say; the book was better. Even if you have already seen the movie, give the book a go. Maybe you’ll get something more out of it?

7) STARGIRL by Jerry Spinelli --- STARGIRL is a book that makes you smile like an idiot but also makes you want to cry like a baby. It’s beautifully written and makes for an amazing read.

And there you have it! Seven books that will be a perfect end to summer. As Frank Zappa said, “So many books, so little time.”
