Last month we asked our Teen Board and members of our Teen Elite Squad to get into the spirit of “summer love”, and read some romance-themed eBooks!

We asked them to share their thoughts about the books that they read, as well as what it was like to read these books on a digital device ---  not as a hardcover or paperback, but on a computer, e-reader, smart phone or iPad.

Read below to see Part One of what they said about the books they received and their e-reading experience. And be sure to check in on August 20th for Part 2 of this post!

If you are interested in reading any of these eBooks, click here  for more details and how to buy them!

What book did you read? PIECE, LOVE, AND HAPPINESS by Emily Franklin
How would you describe this book to a friend? It is the second book in a series of books about Love Bukowski, a rich, intelligent, rather pretty teenage girl. But just try to hate her with her peppy dialog, witty insights and genuineness. While not abounding in moral lessons and peppered lightly with cussing, this book is a light fun read.
How many stars would you rate it? (1-5 with 5 being the best) 3.5
Who would you recommend it to? Those who have read the first book in the series, or 12-15 year old girls.
What device(s) did you use to read this eBook? My Nook Simple Touch
Did you like reading this book digitally? Why or why not? I enjoyed reading this book digitally. It wasn't too long, so I am sure weight wouldn't have been a problem if I had read a physical copy, but I love that I can put my Nook anywhere, it is light and easy to travel with. I also think that a Nook is a great way to read books and get a feel for them before you decide if you want to put the money into purchasing a physical edition. I know that I love to own books that I have read and enjoyed, but hate when I purchase a physical edition of a book and then don't enjoy it. It takes up precious space on my rather compact bookshelves that could have been used for a book I loved more.

What book did you read? JUST A SUMMER ROMANCE by Ann M. Martin
How would you describe this book to a friend? I would say that is was the perfect read for a summer day; to pack in your beach tote while you tan in the sun. It's a great romance novel made especially for teens.
How many stars would you rate it? (1-5 with 5 being the best) I would give it a 5 because it was extremely interesting, and I was engaged throughout the whole book.
Who would you recommend it to? Definitely anyone who is obsessed with romance novels!
What device(s) did you use to read this eBook? I used my computer.
Did you like reading this book digitally? Why or why not? I liked it, but not as much as I would if I could have tangibly held the book and made it my own.

First Name: Rachel
Age: 14

What book did you read? ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE by Emily Franklin
How would you describe this book to a friend?: It was a slow-paced novel, with many story lines featuring Love, a college student who just moved back to America from London. The storylines include Love missing her British boyfriend, Asher; her deep and twisted family problems; and of course, Lindsay, a girl who doesn't stop bothering Love.
How many stars would you rate it? (1-5 with 5 being the best): Sadly, this book was a strong 2 stars.
Who would you recommend it to? I wouldn't regularly recommend this book, but if I did, I would recommend it to middle school-aged girls who want to read something over the summer.
What device(s) did you use to read this eBook? My iPad
Did you like reading this book digitally? Why or why not? Yes, I always find that reading books digitally is a lot easier.

What book did you read? WHEN LOVE COMES TO TOWN by Tom Lennon
How would you describe this book to a friend? Taking place in Ireland in the 1990s, this novel takes you to a whole new setting than you're probably used to. I loved looking into the different culture, both time-wise and country-wise. The novel had some great subtle humor but meaningful poetic sections as well. Though I am not the same gender or sexuality as the protagonist, the themes of struggling to fit in and finding your identity are relatable for any teenager.
How many stars would you rate it? (1-5 with 5 being the best) 3
Who would you recommend it to? This novel has been compared to THE CATCHER IN THE RYE, and I completely agree. It's a hip, coming-of-age novel, perfect for any teenager who is a little bit scared or confused about his/herself and the world.
What device(s) did you use to read this eBook? Samsung Galaxy S3
Did you like reading this book digitally? Why or why not? It was more convenient than carrying around a book, though occasionally if I read for too long, the light would hurt my eyes. If you're always on-the-go, I definitely recommend reading e-books on your mobile device.

What book did you read? HE LOVES ME NOT by Caroline B. Cooney
How would you describe this book to a friend? HE LOVES ME NOT by Caroline B. Cooney is a light contemporary novel about Alison, a girl who has a very busy life playing piano. She deals with being lonely, busy and balancing her life when she has a chance at love.
How many stars would you rate it? (1-5 with 5 being the best) I'd rate this book 3.5 stars. It was really quick to get through but some of the minor characters and her past weren’t as well developed as I would have liked.
Who would you recommend it to? I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves quick contemporary books, especially if you like photography and/or music.
What device(s) did you use to read this eBook? I read this on my Nook Color.
Did you like reading this book digitally? Why or why not? I liked reading it on my Nook because since it was a contemporary book it was easier to 'flip' the pages with my finger rather than manually doing it. When reading something light and easy I like speeding through it and finding out what happens next. I think the only flaw reading digitally is that if you want to read it outside, there tends to be a glare even with the best digital devices. I personally like to read contemporary books outside in the nice weather so it was a little difficult with the glare.

What book did you read? FORBIDDEN by Caroline B. Cooney
How would you describe this book to a friend? Probably not, to be honest.
How many stars would you rate it? (1-5 with 5 being the best): 3.It was okay, but it didn't really blow me away or anything.
Who would you recommend it to? People who enjoy romance novels.
What device(s) did you use to read this eBook? On my computer
Did you like reading this book digitally? Why or why not? Not really, but I've just always preferred physical copies of books.

What book did you read? LOVE FROM LONDON by Emily Franklin
How would you describe this book to a friend? LOVE FROM LONDON is an intriguing romance between an American teen, Love, and a mysterious photographer, Asher. It shows what it's like to be away from your family and have to make your own decisions regarding education, boys and life. It will definitely make you want to spend a semester in London to appreciate all the city has to offer. Throw in classic songs from '70s, the plot twist with Love’s best friend's brother and a girl who sees the world in a completely different way from others, and you have a great read. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
How many stars would you rate it? (1-5 with 5 being the best) 3
Who would you recommend it to? I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a romance between an American teen girl and a cute foreign boy. Also, those who have ever wanted to study abroad will surely enjoy the novel because it sets the scene for what studying abroad might be like.

Did you like reading this book digitally? Why or why not? I would have preferred an actual book for this specific novel. The poems and text breaks were hard to read on a small screen! Especially at first, it was a little confusing to figure out when the novel switched to a new scene, paragraph or chapter.

What book did you read? WHEN LOVE COMES TO TOWN by Tom Lennon
How would you describe this book to a friend? This book was very interesting. The protagonists can't find love until they meet each other. They go on a couple dates and think they won’t work, but on the right time and day, hit everything off!

What book did you read? HE LOVES ME NOT by Caroline B. Cooney
How would you describe this book to a friend? HE LOVES ME NOT was one of the sweetest books I've ever read! It's the story of Alison, a high schooler who is struggling with managing her piano career and her social life. As she works harder and harder at her piano gigs she starts to feel like she's missing out on all the fun high school has to offer. Then she meets Ted. I won't spoil the rest of the book for you, but I'll tell you it is adorable!

What device(s) did you use to read this eBook? I read this book on my iPhone.
Did you like reading this book digitally? Why or why not?  I didn't mind reading this book digitally but it was a little weird not physically seeing how long the book was.
