Spotted: A Free Comic Book Day Celebration

If you follow on Facebook or Twitter, you'll have seen us post about a special event that occured this weekend: Free Comic Book Day. Every year, on the first Saturday in May, comic book shops around the country give out free comics to spread their love of comic books!

Now, to be honest, I've never really gotten into reading comic books. I almost find this surprising as I'm a huge fan of Batman in most forms (shame on me for not reading the comics before seeing any of the TV shows or movies!) and am also a self-proclaimed dork (I recently FREAKED OUT after hearing about the Star Wars saga being written as a Shakespeare's TRUE!) Nevertheless, after failed attempts at reading THE WATCHMEN and GHOST WORLD, I have decided to stick with novels and let others have their fun with comics.

Regardless of my personal preference, I saw something pretty cool while I was on a run this Sunday. First of all, I may be one of the few people I know who enjoys "city running" --- I don't like running through parks or pretty landscapes, I prefer the sidewalk of major metropolitan areas. That means I actively dodge pedistrians (or do they dodge me?) and race the streetlights to cross before they turn red. I also use running as an opportunity to explore areas of the city I don't normally walk in. Instead of waiting for a light to turn, I'll just change directions to avoid long as it's in the vague direction I'd like to go. Or even if it isn't, that's just one more street I'll get to see that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Using this running technique on Saturday, I by a long line of people waiting for something. Since I know what day it was, it didn't take me long to realize that these people were waiting for their free comic book! I don't normally stop or take breaks on my runs, but when I do, it's to take pictures of comic book fans celebrating a day for them!
