author photo.JPGbook cover.jpgToday we have young singer-songwriter Alexandra Monir, writing about her authorial debut, TIMELESS. TIMELESS is a sweeping, time-traveling romance that asks the question, What if your soulmate was born into a different era? Alexandra also composed two companion songs for the book, and you can hear a snippet of each of them in the playlist below. Read on to learn 10 Random Things about Alexandra!

  1. I’ve been obsessed with books since I was barely out of the womb! My childhood friends still tease me about the day at our best friend Roxane’s house, when I was three years old. Everyone was playing outside in the backyard except for me, and the parents grew worried by my disappearance and began searching the house. I was eventually found sitting alone on the floor of Roxane’s bedroom, surrounded by a huge pile of books that I had emptied from her bookcase. Not the most polite move for a guest, I’ll admit! But I couldn’t get enough of books, and I looked at playdates as a golden opportunity to raid new bookshelves.

  2. I started writing my own stories at age seven, while spending the summer with my family in an ancient Italian villa, La Mura. This was the summer residence of the foremost poets of the Victorian era, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning. I would sit in the drawing room, at the same desk and chair they had used more than a century before me, and scribble my made-up stories into notebooks. Being steeped in all this history spurred on my love for writing stories set in the past.

  3. The books that most inspired my writing incorporate either fantasy, history, or both. Some of my lifelong favorites include Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden, Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, and the masterpiece known as J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.

  4. I began singing and acting in stage musicals while in elementary school, and I’ve been a Broadway addict ever since. I try to see every new show that opens in New York. Some of the shows that have blown my mind are West Side Story, Patti LuPone and Laura Benanti in Gypsy, and In The Heights.

  5. I’ve been writing and recording my own music since I was fourteen. Moving to LA at age eighteen to pursue my music is actually how I broke into the writing biz! At the same time as I was recording and performing around LA, I would also meet with film and television execs to pitch and develop my movie and TV series ideas.

  6. I started renting an apartment in midtown Manhattan in December 2007, and I’ve been bicoastal between NYC and LA since then.

  7. I came up with the idea for Timeless on a December afternoon in New York, while thinking about how coming of age and falling in love feels the same way no matter what century a person lives in. I wanted to explore the idea of sixteen-year-old girls from different eras experiencing what it’s like to grow up in this wonderland that is Manhattan. As I wrestled with this idea later, I had another thought that grabbed me and wouldn’t let go: What if someone’s real love isn’t found in their own lifetime? What if someone’s true soulmate lives in the past? This idea inspired me to come up with Michele and Philip’s love story.

  8. Timeless was the first book, and first book proposal, that I ever wrote. I hope to write many, many more! I’m currently at work on the sequel to Timeless, which I’m very excited about.

  9. I incorporated original music and songwriting into Michele and Philip’s romance, because I love the idea of two people finding a higher connection to each other through song. I also believe that music is the best expression of emotions that are too overwhelming and overpowering for normal words.

  10. I wrote every sentence of Timeless while listening to music in my headphones. I had special playlists for the three eras Michele travels back in time to, as well as more contemporary music for when she is in 2010. The artists I listened to the most while writing are Radiohead and Cesaria Evora.
