If You Ask Me…Deja from Louisville, KY and Hattie from Farmington, ME

Posted by Marisa Emralino

IfYouAskMe.jpgToday's “If You Ask Me... Q&A" is answered by Deja from Louisville, KY and Hattie DeRaps from Farmington, ME. They discuss their favorite books and series, what questions they’d ask THE BOOK THEIF author Markus Zusak and Twilight creator Stephanie Meyer, and which characters would liven up their next birthday party.

Deja from Louisville, KY

If you could trade places with any character from a book for a day, who would you be and why?

I would trade places with Alice Cullen from the Twilight series. I love her enthusiasm and the way she handles things.

What is the last book you read? Would you suggest it to a friend? Why or why not?

I read THE RULES OF SURVIVAL by Nancy Werlin, and yes, I would suggest it to a friend because it’s a really good story about a boy who tries to save his sisters from his peculiar mother.

Name three characters from a book that you'd like to invite to your birthday party.

I would invite all of the Cullens and the wolves from the Twilight Series.

Do you have a favorite quote from a book? If so, what is it?

“I’m Switzerland” --- Bella Swan from The Twilight Saga: ECLIPSE by Stephanie Meyer

Tell us about your top three favorite books of all time.

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS by J.K. Rowling, the Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer and the Eternals series.

If you had the opportunity to meet any author (dead or alive), who would you choose to meet, and what three questions would you ask him/her?

Stephanie Meyer --- I would ask her how she knew that Edward was a vampire from the dream she had. Also, I’d ask, “Who is your favorite writer?” and “Are there any characters that are similar to her in personality?”

What movies have you seen that were based on books? Did you like the book or film version better? Why?

I saw the movie adaptation of DEAR JOHN by Nicholas Sparks.

Tell us about your favorite book series.

My favorite book series are the Alice books by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.

If you could trade places with any character from a book for a day, who would you be and why?

I’d change places with Emma from Jane Austen's EMMA. I'd love to spend one day in the 1700s and wear all the clothes, go to the dances and eat the food. But then I would go back home for a hot shower and use electricity!

What is the last book you read? Would you suggest it to a friend? Why or why not?

INCARCERON by Catherine Fisher. I would only recommend it to someone who is very interested in science fiction and who likes series books.

Name three characters from a book that you'd like to invite to your birthday party.

Katniss from THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins and Liesel and Rudy from THE BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak.

Do you have a favorite quote from a book? If so, what is it?

"Books are the ultimate Dumpees: put them down and they’ll wait for you forever; pay attention to them and they always love you back."

-- AN ABUNDANCE OF KATHERINES by John Green

Tell us about your top three favorite books of all time.

I definitely like THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins, PAPER TOWNS by John Green and THE BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak. I like them for different reasons, but I think that you’ll see that they’re all smart, brilliant and profound in their own ways.

If you had the opportunity to meet any author (dead or alive), who would you choose to meet, and what three questions would you ask him/her?

I’d want to meet Markus Zusak. I'd ask him about his inspiration for writing, how he plans (or doesn't plan) his novels and how he writes about a time period without actually living through it.

What movies have you seen that were based on books? Did you like the book or film version better? Why?

I've seen a ton of movies based on books, but the last one I saw was The Lovely Bones. In this case, I definitely liked the book better because I felt that essential parts of the plot were left out of the movie.

Tell us about your favorite book series.

THE HUNGER GAMES, hands down. It's smart, edgy and original and I can't get enough of it! I wish it was a ten or twelve book series!
