This Week's New Releases

NewReleases_ButtonV1.jpgThis week, we've got an interesting set of new releases to help kick off the month of August (how time flies by!). Some of the highlights include ACCOMPLICE by Eireann Corrigan, where the pressure of college applications takes its toll on a couple of kids who conjure up a risky scheme to make them ‘stand out’; Darren Shan's THE THIN EXECUTIONER, which is a loose adaptation of HUCKLEBERRY FINN;and Veronica Chambers’s PLUS, which follows a girl who gains a modeling contract after gaining 25 pounds when her boyfriend dumps her --- sweet revenge!

New Releases for August 1st

Hardcover

ACCOMPLICE by Eireann Corrigan (Scholastic Press)

Finn and Chloe have it all figured out. Their school guidance counselor has told everyone that it's not enough to get good grades or do community service anymore --- kids like that are everywhere, and colleges are bored of them. So what do you do? Chloe decides they should get attention another way. She and Finn will stage her own disappearance --- and then Finn will be the only who finds and saves her. What college wouldn't want them after that kind of attention? It seems like a good plan --- until things start going very wrong.


ROSE SEES RED by Cecil Castellucci (Scholastic Press)

Set in New York in the 1980s, this story of two ballet dancers (one American, one Russian) recounts the unforgettable night they spend in the city, and celebrates the friendship they form despite their cultural and political differences.


THE THIN EXECUTIONER by Darren Shan
(Little, Brown Books for Young Readers)

In a kingdom of merciless tyrants, Jebel Rum's family is honored as royalty because his father is the executioner. But Rashed Rum is near retirement. And when he goes, there will be a contest to determine his successor. It is a contest that thin, puny Jebel has no chance of winning.

He must take with him a slave, named Tel Hesani, to be sacrificed to the god. It will be a dark and brutal journey filled with lynch mobs, suicide cults, terrible monsters and worse, monstrous men. GUARDIAN OF THE GATE: Prophecy of the Sisters, Book 2 by Michelle Zink (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers)

The ultimate battle between sisters is nearing and its outcome could have catastrophic consequences. As 16 year-old Lia Milthorpe searches for a way to end the prophecy, her twin sister Alice hones the skills she'll need to defeat Lia. Alice will stop at nothing to reclaim her sister's role in the prophecy, and that's not the only thing she wants: There's also Lia's boyfriend James.

Lia and Alice always knew the Prophecy would turn those closest to them against them. But they didn't know what betrayal could lead them to do. In the end, only one sister will be left standing.
