Cindy Trumbore

Cindy Trumbore began her children's publishing career in the 1980s, rising to a position as senior editor at Bantam Books for Young Readers  before moving on to hardcover children's books. She was editor-in-chief of Four Winds Press/Macmillan from 1987-1991 and executive editor (1991-1998) and editorial director (1998-1999) of Dial Books for Young Readers. Books she has edited include the Newbery Honor book A LONG WAY FROM CHICAGO, and Newbery Medal winner A YEAR DOWN YONDER, both by Richard Peck, and BEHIND THE SECRET WINDOW by Nelly Toll, winner of the 1994 International Reading Association Award. After moving to educational publishing, she served as a supervising editor with Pearson Education from 1999 to 2007, editing classroom materials in Reading and Language Arts, and is currently an executive editor with an educational developer.

She began writing children's books in 1999, publishing four nonfiction books for classrooms with Modern Curriculum Press and a fantasy novel for grades 2-5, THE GENIE IN THE BOOK (Handprint/Chronicle), in 2004. Her award-winning picture book, THE MANGROVE TREE, with collages by Susan L. Roth, was published by Lee and Low in May 2011. PARROTS OVER PUERTO RICO, also illustrated by Roth, was awarded the 2014 ALA Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal.

Cindy was an instructor at the Institute of Children's Literature, teaching writing for children, from 2005 to 2012.
